OUR MISSION

The AGEF funds innovative school and classroom projects to enhance learning experiences. We seek to help teachers realize their vision for student learning beyond the constraints and limitations of a school budget. Learn more and apply for a grant below.
The mission of the AGEF is to raise philanthropic support to expand and enhance educational opportunities and to create connections for the students in the Avon Grove School District. 
OUR OBJECTIVES
  • Engage business and community partners in support of the Avon Grove School District and the academic achievement of all its students.

  • Provide funds for programs, such as innovative teacher grants, which are beyond the finanical resources of the school district.

  • Generate a spirit of local enthusiam and support for our individual schools and our district as a whole.

  • Collaborate, involve, and make connections between our parents, community members, local businessess and our classrooms.

  • Provide a vehicle to facilitate tax-deductible contributions for the benefit of our schools.

OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Avon Grove Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded to expand and enhance educational opportunities for Avon Grove students. Our volunteer board consists of community members, teachers, and parents who are committed to making our local education the best it can be, and are dedicated to ensuring all Avon Grove students are supported to achieve their dreams.

The Foundation relies solely on money collected through generous donations by local businesses and corporations, parents, and community members.

Board members serve to bridge local businesses and individuals who seek support our local schools both by building relationships between our students and schools, and by contributing monetarily to fund innovative learning opportunities.
TARA BURNS
SEBASTIAN CIOABA, Ph.D.
MIKE ADAMS
Mike Adams is a business leader at W.L. Gore and Associates. He has two sons at Avon Grove Intermediate School. An engineer by training, he has a passion for STEM education and looks forward to helping support the district’s needs in this area, amongst many others.
Tara Burns is a former classroom teacher and instructional specialist with a Masters degree in Education Administration. Tara is now spending her time working on school and teacher support by volunteering and being active in PTA. Tara is currently president of the AGIS PTA. Tara has two boys who are both Avon Grove students.
Dr. Sebastian Cioaba is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at University of Delaware where he does research in discrete mathematics and teaches graduate and undergraduate mathematics courses. He is actively involved in mathematics outreach activities at the K-12 level and has two young children in the Avon Grove School District.

CAROLYN HAMMERSCHMIDT
LOUIS CHANCE Ed.D, BCBA
Dr. Chance is a graduate of Avon Grove High School, a former Avon Grove School District employee, and father to 3 students currently enrolled in Avon Grove schools. He is currently employed at Downingtown Area School District as the Director of Pupil Services.
Brenda Deaner has been an educator for 27 years, 17 of which have been in the Avon Grove School District. She has taught in numerous states and in Germany as well. Brenda is currently a fifth grade English Language Arts instructor at AGIS.
Carolyn Hammerschmidt is a former public school teacher and administrator, and is currently working towards her Doctor of Education at the University of Delaware. Her work involves building community and parent partnerships with public schools. She has two children who attend the Avon Grove School District.

ROGER HOROWITZ
Roger Horowitz is Director of the Center for the History of Business, Technology, and Society at the Hagley Museum and Library and Professor of History at the University of Delaware. Professionally he is teacher, writer, and public speaker, and has particular experience in grant writing and assessment of grant applications. His children currently attend AGIS and Avon Grove High School, and has an older son who graduated from Newark High School in Delaware. He lives in Landenberg.
Debra L’Heureux is a local business owner, former teacher and school board member.
Tracy Litchfield has been an educator in the Avon Grove School District for 17 years. Her two grown children are graduates of Avon Grove High School. She has taught 3rd through 6th grades as a special educator, and is entering her 7th year as a sixth grade English Language Arts classroom teacher.

Scott Lucas is a local business owner and has had two children attend AGSD all years K through 12.
Courtney Michener Miller is a global leader in learning and development at AstraZeneca. As an educator in her early career, Courtney uses her passion for teaching and learning to bring innovation and impact to her business and community. She is Mom to four children that show her each day how vital and powerful it is to ignite a love for learning in our youngest minds.
Maria Navarrete-Olvera is a graduate of Penn State University and owner of Zena Florist, LLC and has a son in Avon Grove Intermediate. Maria has a passion for not only floral design but also community involvement.
KYLE SHAH
NANCY ROWAN, M.Ed.
BOB RUDDY
Nancy has been an elementary educator for 25 years. She previously taught in the Downingtown Area School and has been in the Avon Grove School District for the past 18 years. Her current role is as a Reading/MTSS Specialist at AGIS. Her two grown children are graduates of Avon Grove High School.
Bob Ruddy is an Avon Grove parent of two students. Bob has been a technology leader in the financial services industry for nearly 20 years. Having graduated from Central Bucks West, a highly rated PA Public School, Bob has seen what public schools can bring and has been a strong advocate to continue to advance the Avon Grove School District to its full potential.
Kyle Shah is currently enrolled as a 12th grader at Avon Grove High School and has been attending the school within the district since 4th grade. He is an active student through participating in sports and clubs in the high school.
LESLIE WALLACE
BOB WEIDENMULLER
Leslie Wallace is the creator and former president of the PAC (Parent Action Committee) at Avon Grove High School, and has been a constant volunteer and coordinator for many school district committees and events. She is a former elementary school teacher and has a passion for strengthening and supporting public schools. Leslie has a son who is a recent graduate of the Avon Grove School District.
Bob Weidenmuller is a former AG School Board member and president and retired business CIO for the Chemours and DuPont companies. His three children all graduated from Avon Grove High School.
